About Us

Welcome to Wisteria Inn!  We are Tracey and Aimee Craig, proud owners of one of the most beautiful, historic homes in Woodsfield, Ohio.  As empty nesters, we searched for a business venture that would allow us to work and spend time together, as well as, fulfill a need within our community.  After a summer of renovations, we are so pleased to open our doors to you.  We hope that you find the Wisteria Inn warm, charming and a delightful experience.

About the Inn

This beautiful, Victorian era home was built in 1907 for Harry and Marie Mooney Shaffer.  Marie was the daughter of prominent businessman and US congressman, William Crittenden Mooney and Mary Davenport Mooney.  Marie’s grandfather, Colonel Samuel Mooney chartered the Monroe Bank in Woodsfield and also played an integral part in the development of Monroe County.  Harry and Marie moved into their new home and raised a family; twin girls, 2 sons and another daughter.  Over the years, the house changed hands a few times but was always well taken care of.  In the 50’s the house went through a major renovation to make it more suitable for the times.  However, even with the changes, it maintained its Victorina charm. In 1988, Jerry and Linda Haney purchased the home.  They shared a great love for things of old and little by little they worked until the house became a showplace of style and elegance.  In 1998, Jerry and Linda, who had become recent empty nesters, decided to turn their beautiful home into something that everyone could enjoy.  They opened the Victorian Rose Bed and Breakfast.  Over the years they hosted bridal parties, relatives in town for family reunions or funerals, deer hunters, ministers, and the list goes on.  There was definitely a need in our community for overnight accommodations.  As Jerry and Linda got older they realized that the house was becoming too much for them.  Keeping up with an old house of this proportion was starting to take its toll.  After 20 years of running a very successful business they took down the Victorian Rose B & B sign in their front yard and in place of it went a for sale sign. My husband and I tossed around the idea of buying the house for a few years and always settled on “if it was meant to be for us, it wouldn’t sell to anyone else”.  In 2023, the house still on the market, my husband and I purchased it from Jerry and Linda for the purposes of polishing it up a bit and reopening it as the Wisteria Inn and Small Event Venue.  We wanted to put our own touch on the house without compromising its integrity or its unique qualities. We were able to add a little modern while still maintaining the beautiful piece of history that it is.  We had excellent guidance along the way, as Jerry and Linda are my parents.  I now understand the love my parents had and still have for this house.  It is grand. It is graceful and we cannot wait for you to come and see for yourself, all that it is and has to offer!
